Formerly an SCCA race car - with its built 1275, a dog box tranny, locked differential and a quality head, this Sprite is ready to begin a new life as a vintage race car (SVRA, Vara, VSCDA, etc.), Solo/Autocross or track day car after its successful SCCA career in Arizona.
CAR IS LOCATED IN AUBURN, WHICH IS JUST NOTH OF SACRAMENTO.
HISTORY:
After a couple years of winning races in the Arizona region, the father and son team that built and campaigned this car (Dad - an ASE Master Mechanic, Son - a Mechanical Engineer) set their sights on the National Run-Offs. The car got a refreshed motor, new brakes, etc. and was updated, and then was properly stored/lubricated to wait for the next season. Then sadly, within a few months of each other, both father and son passed away.
It was then bought by a motorhead in Arizona who, although not a racer, knew it was a quality build. I bought it from him - I literally remembered the car from my SCCA days. It was - from my perspective and from someone who ran against it in AZ that I spoke to - one of the best handling cars we had seen.
SPECS/BUILD:
The car has a 1275 race motor with a nicely modified, good-flowing head. Also features a dog box 4 speed transmission and a locked differential. It also has an oil cooler and a Moroso Accu-sump system for engine safety, and a Pertronix ignition system with Taylor wires and new Champion race plugs for spark. It has dual SU carbs with K & N filters. Exhaust is a thermal-wrapped 4 into 1 header, straight pipe and capped off by a Supertrapp adjustable muffler.
Fuel is supplied by a Holley pump with dual filters and a fuel regulator/gauge under the hood. The pedal assembly and master cylinders are Wilwood with an in-car brake bias knob. Front brakes are larger British Leyland units and the rears are a pair of Wilwood units. All four discs and pads have plenty of life left.
The suspension is really well designed: Spax shocks and properly sized springs up front with a beefy sway bar. The rear includes Koni shocks, properly sized springs, a ladder bar style set up, plus a Panhard bar and a top mounted sway bar.
Has a full Auto-Meter gauge panel in the cockpit, as well as a large Pro Comp Tach and a speedometer. All work as they should. Has two Vitaloni mirrors. The inside of the doors have aluminum panels with sliding race latches. There is an oil pressure gauge on the Accu-sump tank and a fuel pressure gauge under the hood, as well.
The roll cage has an SCCA number stamp on it and is 8 point with door/leg bars. It's a swept back cage, as opposed to the fully upright cages on some Sprites/Midgets. The steering wheel is removable with a flat bottom, and the seat is fiberglass and there are (of course) mounting points for a 6 point harness. It has a full fire suppression system with SCCA approved and located nozzles and an activation knob on the dash panel. Has an SCCA compliant master power cut off switch. The ATL fuel cell is labeled as SCCA legal. Has compliant front and rear fluid catch cans.
The wheels are Alloy anodized lightweight race wheels. the car also comes with a full set of black steel Diamond race wheels (to use as rains, spares, etc.). All 8 rims are 13" and are not bent. The body shows no signs of crashes/incidents - just good old fashioned racing patina. The body is all metal with fiberglass front and rear flares with British racing green paint and gold accents.
The cockpit is set up for larger drivers: the builder/driver was about 250lbs. and I am 6'3" and 225 lbs. and am comfortable sitting in the car. Good news for larger drivers that usually can't fit in Sprites/Midgets (I never could until this one)..........and for smaller drivers, it's of course easier to make the driving position smaller rather than larger.
RECENT WORK/SERVICE: Oil and filter have been changed with Valvoline VR1 and ZDD Plus additive. The rear differential has new Ultra Plus synthetic transaxle oil. The fuel cell has had all foam removed and has been properly cleaned. The Holley fuel pump was cleaned/serviced and all fuel lines to the front of the car were replaced, as well as both fuel filters.
The brake and clutch master cylinders have been flushed and filled with Motul 600. The SU carbs have been disassembled and re-gasketed/O-ringed, with fresh oil added to their tanks. I synched them as best as I am able but a better mechanic than me should tune them. Coolant system has been flushed and new antifreeze added. The front sway bar has new Energy Suspension silicone bushings.
Sprite revs strong and idles smooth upon warm-up. Carbs could use a tune & synch (not my strong suit) to get the best from them. It shifts through gears as it should. Braking system holds fluid (needs a proper mechanical pump bleed - I did it solo and manually). Will need typical stuff: belts, tires, foam added to fuel cell (the new is foam included with car), a race prep, etc.
EXTRAS/SPARES: Comes with 8 rims mentioned above (Alloy & Diamond racing). Also includes a new 2-row aluminum radiator, new fuel cell foam, new safety stickers (Tow, Extinguisher, Master Power Cut-Off, etc.), a new mirror, 2nd battery and other spares as pictured in the photos.
AVAILABLE TRAILER: Optionally, available to buy with the car is single axle IDEAL trailer with new bearings & LED lights, good tires with 2 spares and a new manual winch. The trailer has a tire rack that locks. The Sprite fits well on it.
Will do a very good deal on a package for both car and trailer.
Also, if you have a Sprite and want to give it some real juice -- the motor, tranny, differential, brakes, etc. will bolt on to your car.
Additional photos and video available on request. Car will be sold with a bill of sale.
Price is $7,500 for car, OBO.
No trades and I do not need help selling it.
If you try and scam me, I will report you immediately. Seriously. Don't waste your time.
