THE HOUSE: The house is a 1938 Brick Colonial. It has beautiful hardwood floors throughout the house and exposed woodwork. It has a lovely front porch and a screened in back porch as well as a large, fenced back yard. The living room has a working fireplace and the adjacent dining room & kitchen provide ample common space.
There is a guest bathroom and shower off the kitchen/laundry area.
The main bathroom on the 2nd floor is shared by the three upstairs bedrooms.
Each bedroom has a window unit for air conditioning and there is one giant air conditioner for the living room and dining room located in the living room.
The utilities are gas, electric, water and internet.
CURRENT RESIDENTS: The current residents are two males on the second floor & one female with a small dog. Another female person lives in the separate basement apartment. She has an indoor cat.
RENT, DEPOSITS & UTILITIES: The bedroom has its own bathroom on the top floor and rents for $1,350 per month plus including utilities: water, gas & internet access. Security Deposit: $500 returnable at the end of the lease. Un-furnished.
PARKING: DC tags and zone stickers are required to avoid parking tickets. Street parking is readily available.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD: If you don’t already know about Takoma Park, it is a vibrant and progressive community to live in. There are friendly neighbors and great shops. There is a public library, community center and an indoor swimming pool three blocks away. There are lots of community events including the Takoma Park Folk festival, The Takoma Park Jazz festival (June 15th), the 4th of July Parade, the Takoma Park Street fair and many others.
FOOD SHOPPING: (D.C. & Maryland): Safeway on Piney Branch Ave. in DC. is 3 blocks walking distance. Whole Foods Georgia Ave. 3 blocks walking distance. The Takoma Park/Silver Spring (TPSS) food co-op on Carol Ave. is 15 min. walking distance on Carol Ave. in Takoma Park Maryland.
FARMER’S MARKET: The farmer’s market is held each Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm at the intersection of Laurel and Carol Aves. A great place for locally grown and produced fruit, vegetables, bread, cheese, honey etc.
PERSONAL FAVORITES FOR FOOD: Pizza Movers” is a great neighborhood Pizza shop, at the corner of Carol and Eastern Aves. Farther down on Carol are two local favorite restaurants, The Middle East Cuisine Lebanese restaurant & Rosco’s Neapolitan Pizza, also on Carol Ave. has great food and a wine bar.
TAKOMA TOWN CENTER: The town center offers an eclectic variety of shops, restaurants and services. There is a bike shop, a post office, a hardware store, two banks, and two hair salons. All located on Laurel and Eastern Ave. at the border of Takoma Park Maryland and Takoma Park D.C. where the Farmer’s market is held each Sunday. The “Willow Street Yoga Center” is in a building close by on Willow Street and the House of Musical Traditions is tucked behind the Ace Hardware store and sells a wide range of acoustic instruments, CD’s, and sheet music.
DOWNTOWN SILVER SPRING: Downtown Silver Spring is one Metro stop from Takoma Park and has the Majestic movie theater, & the American Film Institute (AFI Theater), Austin Grill, Red Lobster, Portobello sandwich shop, Panera Bread, Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream and many other restaurants & bars.
WALKING DIRECTIONS FROM THE TAKOMA PARK METRO STATION IN DC ON THE RED LINE: Turn right as you leave the station, go under the Metro bridge. Go straight on Cedar Street, keeping the BP Station on your right.
