This immersive experience takes participants through IMSS’s remarkable exhibits and historic medical artifact collections, offering insight into the evolution of anesthesia, germ theory, surgical techniques, and anatomical knowledge. Housed in the historic Eleanor Robinson Countiss House, one of Chicago’s few remaining lakefront mansions, the museum provides a unique blend of science, history, and architecture.
A highlight of the tour includes an interactive demonstration of a mid-1800s leg amputation, showcasing how surgery was performed before modern anesthesia and sterilization methods. Following the museum visit, guests will enjoy a three-course lunch at Orso’s Italian Restaurant in Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood.
