Niranjanreddy and his production house, Prime Show Entertainments, initially garnered acclaim with the success of HanuMan, which showcased their confidence in director Prashanth Varma and actor Teja Sajja. Following this success, the producers made a high-stakes investment in acquiring the theatrical rights for Double iSmart, betting on the box office appeal of Puri Jagan and Ram. However, this gamble did not pay off as Double iSmart opened to poor reviews and failed to attract audiences, leading to substantial financial losses for the production house.
The financial setback from Double iSmart is a significant blow, especially after recovering investments from their previous projects through satellite and digital rights. The production house’s earlier successes, including HanuMan, had positioned them for continued growth, but the flop of Double iSmart has negated these gains. The high expenditure on the film, driven by star power rather than content quality, highlights the risks associated with overvaluing market trends and celebrity appeal.
Director Puri Jagan has reportedly offered to return a portion of his remuneration to mitigate the losses, but this may not be sufficient to offset the overall financial impact. The situation underscores a crucial lesson for producers: content quality is paramount for a film’s success, as demonstrated by the triumph of HanuMan, contrasting sharply with the disappointing performance of Double iSmart.
