Bollywood has been facing a challenging period over the past few years, with South Indian films dominating the pan-India box office while Hindi films struggle to make an impact. Issues such as generic storytelling, lack of fresh ideas, and ungrounded scripts have led to many films failing to attract audiences. While a few films like Pathaan, Jawan, Gadar 2, Animal, and Stree 2 had success, most other releases have underperformed.

2025 hasn't started well for Bollywood either. Sonu Sood's action thriller Fateh released on January 10, but it was a box office disaster. On January 17, two more films, Azaad starring Ajay Devgn and Emergency starring Kangana Ranaut, failed to make a mark, despite their star power.

Looking ahead, Akshay Kumar's Sky Force is set to release during the Republic Day weekend, but expectations are low. The trailer received a lukewarm response, with many viewers seeing it as another generic patriotic, military-based film. With Akshay also in a rough phase career-wise, Sky Force has a lot to prove if it’s going to break the slump and deliver Bollywood’s first hit of 2025. Otherwise, the month of January may end as a disappointment for the Hindi film industry.
