Aamir Khan Backs Theatres Only for Sitaare Zameen Par

Aamir Khan has taken a bold stand with his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, announcing that it will release exclusively in theatres, with no immediate digital premiere. This decision defies the current industry trend of launching films on OTT platforms within eight weeks of their theatrical debut. Aamir, known for his commitment to meaningful cinema, shared that the push for this move came after a conversation with veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan.

The superstar revealed that while many in his inner circle advised a hybrid release model for safety and profit, he held firm. Aamir expressed concern about how quick digital releases can undercut the cinema experience, stating that a six-month window would feel more appropriate. Despite lucrative offers from streaming platforms, he turned them down, prioritizing audience engagement in theatres.

Aamir disclosed that it was during a dinner meeting with Amitabh Bachchan a prize he and son Junaid Khan earned on Kaun Banega Crorepati that he voiced his uncertainties about the release strategy. Bachchan, renowned for his fearless career choices, urged Aamir to stay true to his instinct and embrace the risk, reminding him of his past as a bold decision-maker.

Reassured by this endorsement, Aamir chose to stick with a cinema-only launch, acknowledging that it might cost him significant pre-sale revenue but also affirming his belief in storytelling on the big screen. He emphasized that this decision applies only to Sitaare Zameen Par, and future releases will be evaluated based on this film’s performance.

Directed by RS Prasanna, the film also features Genelia D’Souza and a cast of neurodivergent children, promising an emotional and impactful narrative. The film’s exclusive theatrical release is not just a marketing choice it’s a statement of belief in the power of cinema.
