Aamir Khan Chases Cinematic Magic, Not Perfection: RS Prasanna
As the release date of Sitaare Zameen Par draws near, director RS Prasanna opens up about his collaboration with Aamir Khan, offering a fresh perspective on the actor’s widely held "perfectionist" image. In an exclusive interview with IndiaToday.in, Prasanna revealed that the 60-year-old actor isn’t chasing perfection but rather cinematic “magic.”
The director, known for his work in Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, said that Aamir approaches filmmaking like a deep-sea diver searching for a rare pearl. “The tag of 'perfectionist' for Mr. Aamir Khan needs an update. What he really seeks is magic,” said Prasanna. “It's like diving deep, again and again, hoping to find that one oyster with a pearl.”
Describing Khan as a selfless collaborator, Prasanna highlighted the superstar’s humility and willingness to place the film above all personal ambition. “Not once has he ever suggested a change for his own benefit as an actor. Every decision comes from what the film needs,” he explained.
The director further debunked the notion that Aamir is a controlling producer. “He is one of the most collaborative actors I’ve worked with,” he said, stressing that Khan supports directors regardless of their fame. “He’s protective of his filmmakers and values potential more than past achievements. That makes him a dream actor and producer.”
Prasanna also reflected on Khan’s legacy of socially impactful cinema. Sitaare Zameen Par, releasing June 20, is a spiritual sequel to Taare Zameen Par, the 2007 classic that brought awareness to dyslexia. The new film continues that mission, shining a light on neurodivergent children, with Genelia D’Souza playing a key role. For RS Prasanna, the collaboration with Aamir Khan is more than just professional it’s an artistic partnership rooted in mutual respect and a shared hunger for stories that matter.
