Dussehra 2025: Akhanda 2 and OG Race to Theaters, but Kantara Looms Large

Dussehra 2025: Akhanda 2 and OG Race to Theaters, but Kantara Looms Large

The Telugu film industry is gearing up for an explosive Dussehra season this year, with two major powerhouses aiming to dominate the box office. Balakrishna’s highly anticipated Akhanda 2 and Pawan Kalyan’s action-packed They Call Him OG are both scheduled to hit theaters on September 25. This head-to-head collision of two mass entertainers has fans excited and trade analysts predicting record openings. But just when everything seemed to align perfectly, a new player has entered the frame Kantara Chapter 1.

While production is moving steadily for both Telugu films, there’s growing concern about the post-release scenario. OG has wrapped up shooting and is currently in post-production, ensuring a smooth path to the release date. Akhanda 2 is also nearly done, with only one song left to film, expected to be completed by the first week of August. With both teams expressing confidence in meeting their deadlines, promotional strategies are already in motion.

The real twist comes a week later, with Kantara Chapter 1 slated to release on October 2, coinciding with Vijayadasami. The original Kantara became a surprise blockbuster, especially in the Telugu-speaking regions. Its prequel carries that strong momentum, creating potential disruption for OG and Akhanda 2 in their crucial second week. While a two-film clash during festivals is typical, having a third heavyweight title in the mix poses unique challenges.

Issues such as theatre sharing, audience segmentation, and second-week revenue drops are now topics of industry speculation. The concern is that even with strong openings, OG and Akhanda 2 might face difficulty sustaining footfalls beyond the first weekend. The tight scheduling also means marketing windows will overlap, possibly confusing audiences or splitting interest.

As things stand, Dussehra 2025 promises intense competition not just on the screens but at the ticket counters. While the opening day numbers may look impressive, the real box office winner will be the film that continues to pull crowds during the extended holiday period.
