SS Rajamouli’s Mahesh Babu Film Officially Titled Gen 63 – A Mythology Meets Sci-Fi Spectacle
Acclaimed filmmaker SS Rajamouli is officially moving away from the placeholder title SSMB29 for his highly anticipated global action-adventure starring Mahesh Babu. The film will now be called Gen 63, a title inspired by Mahesh Babu’s character, who belongs to the 63rd generation of a respected lineage.
Similar to Rajamouli’s blockbuster RRR, which started as an abbreviation of Rajamouli, Ram Charan, and Jr. NTR before becoming the final title, Gen 63 embraces a short and impactful name. However, unlike RRR, which had a Telugu meaning (Roudram Ranam Rudhiram), Gen 63 is fully in English — a first for Rajamouli since his debut film Student No. 1.
A Mythical Quest with a Futuristic Twist
The story follows Mahesh Babu’s character on a mythical journey to find rare and powerful artifacts. Drawing inspiration from the Ramayana and blending science fiction elements, the narrative weaves India’s cultural heritage into a futuristic cinematic universe. A large portion of the story unfolds in Kashi, known for its spiritual and historical significance, adding depth and authenticity to the film’s cultural backdrop.
Star-Studded Cast and Global Appeal
Mahesh Babu will be seen in multiple looks, showcasing his character’s evolution throughout the film. Priyanka Chopra is reportedly playing a fearless explorer, while Prithviraj Sukumaran is set to portray a high-tech and ruthless antagonist. The cast will feature prominent actors from multiple Indian film industries, cementing its pan-India scale.
International Filming in Tanzania
The crew will head to Tanzania on August 15 for a month-long shooting schedule focused on grand action sequences and dense jungle landscapes. Initially, filming was planned for Kenya in July, but political unrest forced a change. South Africa was also considered but ruled out due to logistical constraints. Tanzania’s ancient terrains were ultimately chosen for their timeless and otherworldly vibe.
Release Timeline
Production is expected to wrap by mid-2026, with Gen 63 slated for a worldwide theatrical release in the summer of 2027. With Rajamouli at the helm, audiences can expect a genre-defining spectacle that merges mythology, science fiction, and cutting-edge action.
