At the grand preview event for his son Aryan Khan’s directorial debut Bads of Bollywood, Bollywood’s beloved megastar Shah Rukh Khan took a lighthearted jab at his 2018 film Zero, which was a box office disappointment. During the event, SRK amused the audience with a humorous remark, saying, “Gadha bana lena, mamu bana lena lekin bhagwaan ke liye meri tarah 'Zero' mat banana.” This was not the first time Shah Rukh Khan had joked about Zero’s underperformance. In 2023, during an 'Ask SRK' session on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), SRK also addressed the film’s failure, quipping, “Yaar yeh Zero Zero mat yaad dilao abhi ha ha.”
Released in 2018, Zero was directed by Aanand L. Rai and featured Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif alongside Shah Rukh Khan. Despite the star-studded cast, the film failed to impress at the box office, earning under Rs 100 crore in India. Despite its commercial failure, Shah Rukh Khan has maintained his humor about the film, turning what could have been a sore spot into a moment of levity.
In contrast to his father’s journey in Bollywood, Aryan Khan has chosen a different path by venturing into filmmaking instead of acting. After working for over a year, Aryan is set to make his mark as the creator and director of Bads of Bollywood, a Netflix series that delves into the world of Bollywood’s aspirants, hustlers, and dreamers. The series, which is backed by Red Chillies Entertainment, features a strong ensemble cast including Bobby Deol, Lakshya, Sahher Bambba, Manoj Pahwa, Mona Singh, Manish Chaudhari, Raghav Juyal, Anya Singh, Vijayant Kohli, and Gautami Kapoor. Aryan’s debut as a director marks a significant milestone, as it is not just a personal achievement but also an extension of the family legacy in the entertainment industry.
As the preview event for Bads of Bollywood unfolds, the excitement around Aryan Khan’s journey as a filmmaker continues to build. With the buzz surrounding the show, Aryan’s career in filmmaking seems to be on an upward trajectory, with audiences eagerly awaiting the series' release. The contrast between Shah Rukh Khan’s legacy and Aryan’s directorial debut is a fascinating one, and the industry is keen to see how Aryan will carve out his niche in Bollywood.
