Actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu has joined hands with UN Women India for the 2025 edition of the global 16 Days of Activism campaign, which runs from November 25 to December 10. This year’s theme, UNiTE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls, focuses on the alarming rise in online abuse, harassment, deepfake creation, image manipulation and technology-driven threats faced by women across digital platforms. With millions of users encountering such violations daily, the campaign stresses the urgency of collective action, stronger safeguards and increased accountability from both platforms and individuals.

With over 37 million social media followers, Samantha brings significant influence and personal insight to the initiative. In a video released for the campaign, she discusses the growing spectrum of online abuse, including stalking, doxxing, cyber threats and character attacks that can mentally and emotionally damage women of all ages. She emphasizes that violence is no longer limited to physical spaces, explaining how harmful content online can silence women, destroy reputations and create long-lasting trauma. Her experiences as a public figure have shown how digital abuse can shake a woman’s confidence, forcing many to retreat from public engagement.

Samantha expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with UN Women India and highlighted the need for meaningful change. She urged technology companies to take responsibility in monitoring harmful content, improving reporting mechanisms and empowering victims with effective support systems. She also stressed the necessity for stronger legal protections to ensure swift action against perpetrators. According to her, every abusive comment or manipulated image affects a real person whose dignity must be protected.

Alongside her activism, Samantha continues to balance her work life. She recently made a cameo appearance in her production debut Subham, which received positive reviews. She is currently filming her next project, Maa Inti Bangaram, as she gradually returns to full-time work after recovering from myositis. Her personal life has also drawn attention, with recent reports linking her to director Raj Nidimoru. Despite everything, Samantha remains focused on using her platform to push for safer digital spaces for women and girls.
