Michael, the much-anticipated biographical film about the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, has dropped its official trailer, offering a deep dive into the artist's extraordinary life. Directed by Antoine Fuqua and set to release on April 24, 2026, the film is backed by the Jackson estate and produced by Lionsgate and GK Films. The trailer, released on February 2, 2026, offers a glimpse into Michael Jackson’s evolution from a young prodigy in the Jackson 5 to a global music icon whose legacy continues to shape pop culture today.
The film stars Jaafar Jackson, Michael's nephew, in his feature debut. Jaafar steps into the shoes of his legendary uncle, portraying not only his external resemblance but also capturing the essence of Michael Jackson’s spirit. Fuqua, the director, praised Jaafar’s performance, stating, “It’s Michael’s spirit that comes through in a magical way.” The screenplay for Michael has been penned by John Logan, renowned for his work on Gladiator and Rango.
The biopic traces Jackson’s early years with the Jackson 5, his groundbreaking solo career, and the immense influence he had on music and culture. It promises to deliver a layered portrayal, shedding light on the complexity of his journey from his relentless pursuit of perfection to the personal and professional struggles he faced as he became one of the world’s most influential entertainers.
The supporting cast is also impressive, with Colman Domingo playing Joe Jackson, Nia Long portraying Katherine Jackson, and Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, Kat Graham, and Larenz Tate taking on significant roles as figures from Michael’s life, including Diana Ross and Berry Gordy. The film also features Michael’s siblings, with Jamal R. Henderson, Tre’ Horton, Rhyan Hill, Joseph David-Jones, and Jessica Sula playing them.
