Mammootty Joins Dhanush in D55, Marks Grand Return to Tamil Cinema

Mammootty Joins Dhanush in D55, Marks Grand Return to Tamil Cinema

Veteran Malayalam superstar Mammootty has officially been confirmed as part of the cast of the upcoming Tamil film tentatively titled D55, headlined by Dhanush and directed by Rajkumar Periasamy. The announcement was made by the makers after a cryptic poster sparked widespread speculation online, with fans quickly decoding the hints pointing toward Mammootty’s involvement. The confirmation has generated significant excitement, as the project already carried strong buzz due to its cast and creative team.

D55 marks Mammootty’s return to Tamil cinema after a gap of seven years. He was last seen in the critically acclaimed Tamil drama Peranbu, which earned praise for its emotional depth and powerful performances. His inclusion in D55 is being seen as a major boost, adding gravitas and cross-industry appeal to the film. Announcing his casting, the makers described him as the “Big M,” stating that when Mammootty chooses a story, it becomes history.

Alongside Mammootty and Dhanush, the film features Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela in prominent roles. Sai Pallavi reunites with Dhanush for the second time after their earlier collaboration in Maari 2 and also teams up again with Rajkumar Periasamy following their work together on Amaran. Sreeleela, meanwhile, continues her journey in Tamil cinema with her second project after Parasakthi, directed by Sudha Kongara.

D55 is being produced by Wunderbar Films in association with RTake Studios. The project was initially announced under the Gopuram Films banner, but the production house was later changed. Music for the film will be composed by Sai Abhyankkar. While plot specifics are still under wraps, Rajkumar Periasamy has previously revealed that the story revolves around unsung heroes who quietly blend into society, with the protagonist representing one such individual. With further details about the storyline, supporting cast, and release schedule yet to be revealed, Mammootty’s addition has significantly raised expectations. As anticipation continues to build, D55 is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched Tamil films currently in development.
