Ranbir Kapoor Reveals His Fear of Accepting Animal Role Ahead of Japan Premiere
Ahead of the premiere of Animal in Japan, actor Ranbir Kapoor shared his experience of being initially hesitant to accept the film’s role. Kapoor, who plays the volatile and deeply emotional character Ranvijay Singh, revealed how he was intimidated by the role when director Sandeep Reddy Vanga first narrated the script. Having previously played lover-boy or coming-of-age characters, the actor confessed that the intense, action-packed character of Ranvijay was a far cry from anything he had done before.
Ranbir explained how the director's confidence in him helped him overcome his fears. "Sandeep instilled confidence in me, and I connected with the core emotion of protecting one's family, which is something universal," said Kapoor, highlighting the relatability of the character’s emotional journey.
Sandeep Vanga, who had written the role with Ranbir in mind, also shared his thoughts on the casting process. The director noted that after the first narration, Ranbir was "really scared" and unsure how to approach the role. It was only after receiving the bound script that Ranbir fully committed to the project.
During the press event, Ranbir also reflected on his admiration for his late grandfather, Raj Kapoor, and his legacy in Japan. Kapoor joked about bringing his daughter, Raha, to visit the country someday, adding a light-hearted note to the discussion. The heartfelt connection between father and son, a central theme of Animal, resonated deeply with Kapoor, who felt it was one of the most memorable collaborations of his career. With Animal slated for its release in Japan, the film’s sequel, Animal Park, is also in the works and expected to begin filming next year.
