Anurag Kashyap Responds to Epstein Files Controversy, Calls It a Random Email

Anurag Kashyap, renowned Bollywood filmmaker, has addressed the recent controversy surrounding his name in the Epstein files. The release of over three million pages of documents by the US Department of Justice under the Epstein Files Transparency Act has brought attention to several high-profile figures, including Kashyap. Among the documents is a screenshot of an email where Kashyap is referred to as “the Bollywood guy” and “a famous Bollywood director.” These revelations have sparked a viral wave across the internet, with many questioning the connection.

Kashyap clarified the situation in an interview, strongly denying any connection to the scandal. He expressed confusion over the matter, stating, “I’ve no clue about this. I get invitations as a speaker, about 15 a month. I rarely respond. Also, I have never been to Beijing in my life!” Kashyap also cast doubt on the authenticity of the documents, describing the email as "some random email, that’s self-explanatory." He also remarked that the clickbait nature of such stories often gains more attention than his actual films.

The Epstein files, which were unsealed on January 30, 2026, contain not just emails, but also documents, photos, and videos related to the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Several Indian-origin personalities, including wellness guru Deepak Chopra, filmmaker Mira Nair, and others, were mentioned in the files. Kashyap’s name emerged in a conversation involving people like Giuseppe Bersani, Gino Yu, and Ornella Corazza, discussing inviting him for workshops on Buddhism, technology, and medicine. Despite the unexpected attention, Kashyap remains firm in his denial of any involvement in the controversy.
