Pawan Kalyan’s Ticket Hike Remarks Trigger Mixed Reactions Ahead of Ustaad Bhagat Singh

Pawan Kalyan’s comments on ticket price hikes at the pre-release event of Ustaad Bhagat Singh have sparked wide discussion across the Telugu film industry and among movie audiences. Speaking at the event, the actor and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister said he supports the success of films across all industries and does not see cinema through the lens of rivalry or discrimination. He named stars like Jr NTR, Mahesh Babu, and Prabhas, saying he genuinely hopes their films perform well and reach greater heights. His remarks were seen by many in the industry as a message of unity, especially at a time when regional film competition often fuels fan wars and social media clashes.

Pawan Kalyan also cited the Kannada blockbuster Kantara as an example of how powerful storytelling should be appreciated beyond language barriers. He noted that even when Telugu cinema faces criticism in neighboring states, he does not carry negative feelings toward successful films from other industries. According to him, good cinema deserves encouragement, no matter where it comes from. This part of his speech drew appreciation from film lovers who believe Indian cinema grows stronger when artists and audiences support content over regional divisions.

The bigger talking point, however, was his stand on ticket price hikes. Pawan Kalyan said such hikes should not automatically be seen as exploitation, arguing that producers invest huge sums into filmmaking and seek higher prices mainly during the initial release period to recover costs. He also pointed out that theatrical viewing is not compulsory for everyone, especially in a time when audiences have multiple entertainment choices through OTT platforms like Netflix and other streaming services. His statement reflected the producer-side argument that early box office collections are crucial in today’s high-risk film business.

His remarks did not go down well with a section of the public. Many moviegoers feel that while limited ticket hikes may be understandable for big-budget releases, the recent pattern of steep increases has made theatre-going expensive for common families. Some critics also feel that, as a public representative and Deputy Chief Minister, Pawan Kalyan could have taken a more balanced view by acknowledging the financial burden on regular audiences. Still, industry observers say the ultimate deciding factor remains content. When a film connects strongly with viewers, audiences are often willing to overlook higher ticket prices, as seen in the case of several major blockbuster releases.
