RGV Reacts to Aishwarya Rai's Comeback Rumours in Sarkar 4, Discusses Film’s Expansive Scale
Director Ram Gopal Varma recently addressed speculation surrounding Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s return to the Sarkar franchise in the upcoming Sarkar 4. While Aishwarya played the character Anita Rajan in Sarkar Raj (2008), Varma dismissed the rumours, confirming that the actress would not be part of the new installment. The much-anticipated film, set to begin shooting next month, will feature Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan in their iconic roles, but the director made it clear that Aishwarya would not be returning.
Varma revealed that Sarkar 4 will take the franchise to a whole new level. The director promised that the film would be "on a much bigger scale" and would expand the cinematic world introduced in the earlier Sarkar films. According to Varma, this new chapter would dive deeper into the world of power and politics, with the story being more expansive and focusing on what happens "behind" the scenes of the political drama. He emphasized that the film's visuals would be enriched with close-up shots, creating a grander cinematic experience.
The Sarkar trilogy began in 2005 with the crime drama Sarkar, where Amitabh Bachchan portrayed the iconic role of Subhash Nagre, a powerful political figure. The film’s sequel, Sarkar Raj, introduced Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Anita Rajan, further expanding the scope of the story. The third film in the series, Sarkar 3 (2017), saw the return of Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, along with the addition of new characters played by Yami Gautam, Manoj Bajpayee, and Amit Sadh.
Although the full cast for Sarkar 4 has not been revealed, the buzz around the movie has already started to build, especially with Varma’s hints at the film’s bigger, more ambitious scope. Alongside Sarkar 4, Varma also teased his upcoming project The Syndicate, joking that it would “wash away all my sins.” Fans of the Sarkar series are eagerly awaiting further updates on both films.
