Sarke Chunar Row: NCW Issues Final Notice to Nora Fatehi, Summons Sanjay Dutt for Hearing
The controversy surrounding the song Sarke Chunar Teri continues to intensify as the National Commission for Women (NCW) has issued a final notice to Nora Fatehi to appear in person for a hearing. The hearing is scheduled for April 27, 2026, in connection with the song's allegedly objectionable lyrics. The NCW also summoned actor Sanjay Dutt, who has been asked to appear before the commission on April 8, 2026.
The NCW took suo motu cognizance of the matter after the song sparked outrage due to its sexually explicit content and the apparent undermining of women’s dignity. In the initial hearing held on April 6, 2026, Fatehi’s lawyer represented her, but the commission insisted that the actor herself must be present to address the concerns.
NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar led the proceedings, which also involved lyricist Raqueeb Alam, director Prem, and representatives from KVN Productions, Gautam KM and Suprith. Rahatkar expressed concerns about the lyrics of Sarke Chunar Teri, emphasizing that the dignity of women could not be compromised in the name of creativity. The individuals involved in the song offered a written apology, acknowledging the harm caused and pledged to engage in women’s empowerment initiatives over the next three months, with a progress report to be submitted to the NCW.
The controversy stems from the song’s release as part of the upcoming Kannada film KD: The Devil, directed by Prem and starring Dhruv Sarja. After its release, the song was taken down from YouTube due to its controversial content. KD: The Devil is slated for release on April 30, 2026.
The NCW’s involvement marks a growing trend in addressing explicit content in Bollywood and its societal impact, signaling a shift towards more scrutiny over such creative expressions. The legal process continues, with both Fatehi and Dutt’s appearances set to play a significant role in the unfolding developments.
