Vayuputra Animation Film on Lord Hanuman Put on Hold Over Budget Issues

Reports indicate that producer Naga Vamsi’s ambitious animation project Vayuputra, based on the story of Lord Hanuman, has been put on hold due to escalating production costs. The film, which was planned to be directed by Chandoo Mondeti, had generated considerable buzz for its scale and technological ambition. However, despite a strong script and initial pre-production progress, financial concerns appear to have stalled its development for now.

The project aimed to leverage advanced filmmaking technologies such as animatronics and motion capture, significantly increasing the overall budget. Reports suggest that these technologies alone were estimated to cost around ₹38 crore, pushing the total production cost to approximately ₹50–55 crore or more when factoring in cast remuneration, music, and other expenses. While Indian animation films are gaining traction, such a high investment raised questions about the film’s commercial viability, especially given the unpredictability of theatrical returns in the current market.

Although the production house Sithara Entertainments has previously secured strong OTT deals, the expected digital revenue for Vayuputra reportedly fell short of covering the massive investment required. Combined with cautious market conditions, this appears to have influenced the decision to pause the project temporarily. Despite the growing success of animated films in India, including recent mythological releases, there has been no official confirmation from the makers regarding the film’s future. For now, Vayuputra remains on hold, with industry observers awaiting further updates on whether the project will be revived or reworked.
