Vaazha 2 Joins ₹200 Crore Club: Malayalam Cinema’s Top 5 Box Office Hits

Malayalam cinema has reached another milestone as Vaazha 2: Biopic of a Billion Boys enters the prestigious ₹200-crore club. Directed by Savin SA, the coming-of-age comedy drama has turned into a blockbuster with strong word of mouth and steady footfall in theatres.

Released on April 2, the film crossed ₹200 crore worldwide in just 17 days, making it one of the fastest Malayalam films to achieve this feat. So far, it has grossed around ₹209 crore globally, including ₹109 crore nett in India and ₹83 crore from overseas markets. The film’s success has been driven by its relatable storytelling and repeat audience value, especially in Kerala and Gulf regions.

With this achievement, Vaazha 2 becomes the fifth Malayalam film to cross the ₹200-crore mark. The film is now preparing for its Telugu release, which could further boost its overall collections and rankings among top-grossing Malayalam films.

Other Malayalam Films in ₹200 Crore Club

Malayalam cinema has steadily expanded its box office reach, with several films achieving massive global success in recent years.

• Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra leads the list as the highest-grossing Malayalam film, earning around ₹303 crore worldwide. Directed by Dominic Arun, the film set a benchmark with its large-scale storytelling.

• L2: Empuraan, starring Mohanlal and directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, collected over ₹266 crore globally, becoming one of the biggest commercial hits in the industry.

• Manjummel Boys, directed by Chidambaram, earned around ₹241 crore worldwide. Based on a real-life incident, the survival drama gained nationwide attention.

• Thudarum, another film featuring Mohanlal, surprised everyone by collecting ₹235 crore worldwide. The film gained momentum through strong word of mouth despite a modest opening.

The success of these films highlights a growing trend where content-driven Malayalam cinema is finding audiences beyond regional boundaries. With Vaazha 2 continuing its strong run, the industry’s box office potential is only expected to rise further in the coming years.
