The multi-starrer Patriot, featuring Mohanlal and Mammootty, has delivered a mixed performance at the box office during its opening weekend. While the film showed strong initial traction on Friday in India, collections declined over the weekend, raising concerns about its domestic sustainability. However, the film’s global performance remained impressive, thanks largely to robust overseas collections driven by strong diaspora support. Within just three days, Patriot managed to cross the Rs 50 crore mark globally, reaching a total worldwide gross of Rs 63.61 crore.
In India, the film opened with Rs 10 crore nett on Friday, backed by a solid occupancy rate of around 66 percent. However, the momentum did not hold, with earnings dropping to Rs 6.15 crore on Saturday and further to Rs 5.50 crore on Sunday. Despite this dip, the film still secured a place among the top three Mollywood opening weekends of the year, trailing behind major releases like L2: Empuraan and Thudarum, but staying ahead of other notable films such as Vaazha 2: Biopic of a Billion Bros and Aadu 3. The domestic performance indicates that while initial interest was high, audience retention over the weekend has been a challenge.
On the other hand, Patriot has emerged as a strong performer in international markets, collecting Rs 38.50 crore overseas in just three days, significantly higher than its India gross. Markets like North America played a key role, where the film recorded one of the biggest opening days for a Malayalam film in the region. The strong overseas numbers highlight the consistent pulling power of both Mohanlal and Mammootty among global audiences. Directed by Mahesh Narayanan, the film also stars Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Nayanthara, Revathi, Darshana Rajendran and Rajiv Menon in key roles. With a strong global start but a slowing domestic trend, the coming weekdays will be crucial in determining the film’s long-term box office trajectory.
