The Rivals of Amziah King Trailer Reveals McConaughey's Return to Acting in a Family Drama

Matthew McConaughey is set to return to the big screen in The Rivals of Amziah King, a crime drama that marks his first major role after a six-year hiatus. Directed by Andrew Patterson, the film follows McConaughey as Amziah King, a talented bluegrass musician who operates a honey-making business in rural Oklahoma. The story revolves around Amziah’s struggle to protect his family and livelihood when his estranged foster daughter, played by Angelina LookingGlass, unexpectedly re-enters his life. As father and daughter attempt to rebuild their relationship, they are drawn into a dangerous conflict with rivals threatening to destroy everything they have worked for.

Set against the backdrop of Oklahoma's backwoods, the film explores themes of family, loyalty, and the harsh realities of the honey business. Amziah's efforts to balance his passion for music with the demands of his booming business are complicated by the arrival of powerful enemies. Alongside McConaughey, the cast includes Hollywood veterans such as Kurt Russell, Scott Shepherd, and Cole Sprouse, who play characters caught up in the ensuing rivalry.

The film's synopsis reveals that Amziah’s life, once focused on his family and business, is turned upside down as his enemies close in. As tensions rise, Amziah is forced to fight for the future of his family and the legacy he is building. With its blend of crime, drama, and personal struggle, The Rivals of Amziah King promises to be a compelling addition to McConaughey’s filmography.

The film is scheduled for a limited theatrical release on August 14, 2026, followed by a wider release through Black Bear Pictures on August 21, 2026. McConaughey’s return to the screen after his Oscar-winning performance in Dallas Buyers Club adds to the excitement surrounding this highly anticipated project. Fans of McConaughey and crime dramas will surely find The Rivals of Amziah King a must-watch.
