After dominating the box office, Suriya’s Karuppu is set to make its OTT debut on Prime Video on June 12. Directed by RJ Balaji, the action drama emerged as one of the biggest Tamil hits of the year, completing 25 days in cinemas and collecting over 175 crore in Tamil Nadu and more than 304 crore worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2026.
Karuppu faced a minor release delay, hitting theatres on May 15 after pending financial settlements, but it quickly established itself as a commercial juggernaut. Within four days, it surpassed Singam 2’s lifetime collections, setting a new career-high for Suriya. The film later crossed the worldwide earnings of Mersal, Petta, and Thunivu, entering the Rs 200 crore club in just eight days. Positive word of mouth and favorable reviews sustained its theatrical momentum, surprising fans with an early OTT premiere.
In the film, Suriya plays a guardian deity who descends to Earth after a family seeks divine intervention, taking on corruption and restoring justice. Trisha, Indrans, Swasika, Sshivada, Anagha Maya Ravi, Supreeth Reddy, and Natty Natraj play pivotal roles, while RJ Balaji appears as antagonist Baby Kannan. Cinematography by GK Vishnu, editing by Kalaivanan, and music by Sai Abhyankkar enhance the gripping narrative, ensuring Karuppu delivers a thrilling and socially resonant cinematic experience for audiences worldwide.
