Varalaxmi Sarathkumar is once again in the spotlight, but this time for reasons beyond her screen performances. The actress, who gained strong recognition among Telugu audiences after making her mark in Tamil cinema, is facing fresh criticism after the director of the upcoming Telugu film Police Complaint made public allegations about her lack of cooperation.
Director raises concerns during press meet
During a media interaction for Police Complaint, the director reportedly claimed that Varalaxmi had not extended enough support to the film’s team. According to him, the actress had agreed to take part in promotional activities as part of her commitment, but allegedly gave only limited time for the campaign.
The director further alleged that Varalaxmi was signed for a remuneration of around Rs 75 lakh, with additional staff expenses said to be up to Rs 50,000 per day. He claimed that despite these arrangements, the actress skipped important promotional events, which affected the film’s publicity plans.
Dubbing delay allegation adds to issue
Apart from the promotional concerns, the director also alleged that the film’s dubbing work faced delays because of the actress. He claimed that Varalaxmi avoided completing the dubbing on time, reportedly citing her directorial work as the reason. These comments have now triggered discussion in Tollywood circles, especially because the allegations came during the film’s public campaign.
Varalaxmi has not yet given a detailed fresh clarification on the Police Complaint issue. Until her version comes out, the matter remains one-sided, based mainly on the director’s statements. For a public figure, such issues can quickly affect perception, particularly when they involve professional commitments, remuneration, and promotional responsibilities.
Earlier S Saraswathi controversy returns to focus
This is not the first time Varalaxmi has been linked to a public dispute in recent days. During the promotions of her directorial project S Saraswathi, writer Sai Madhav Burra reportedly expressed disappointment over changes made to the story. His remarks attracted attention online and created a debate around creative credit and story treatment.
Varalaxmi later responded to that issue and appeared to avoid stretching the controversy further. However, with another dispute now surfacing around Police Complaint, the actress finds herself facing renewed scrutiny.
Varalaxmi Sarathkumar has built a strong image with powerful roles across Tamil and Telugu films. That reputation is valuable, but repeated public controversies can damage even a well-established career if they are not addressed clearly. A direct clarification from the actress or her team may help settle the matter before it grows further. For now, the controversy has added unexpected attention to Police Complaint, while also putting Varalaxmi’s professional image under discussion in Tollywood.
