Vijay’s much-awaited film Jana Nayagan is once again in the spotlight after fresh confusion over its censor status. While some reports claimed that the film had already received an A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification, sources close to the project have now clarified that the movie is still awaiting official clearance.

According to sources linked to the film, the team has not yet received the final certificate from the CBFC. The makers are reportedly expecting clarity by next week, after which they are likely to make an official announcement regarding the release date. The source dismissed the current buzz around the film receiving an A certificate as speculation and said the team remains hopeful of getting clearance soon.

Earlier, reports suggested that Jana Nayagan had been granted an A certificate with certain cuts. It was also claimed that the edit list would be uploaded on the CBFC website soon and that the final certificate could be issued next week. However, the latest update indicates that the film has not yet completed the certification process.

Release date speculation continues

The uncertainty around the censor clearance has also increased curiosity over the film’s theatrical release. Industry reports suggest that the makers are looking at July 16 as a possible release date. If that date does not work out, July 23 is said to be another option under consideration. July 31 has also been discussed, but that slot may be difficult because Jason Sanjay’s directorial debut Sigma is already expected to arrive in theatres on the same day.

Jana Nayagan has already faced a long delay. The film’s release was reportedly pushed by nearly six months due to the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections and political controversies surrounding Vijay’s public career. With Vijay entering politics through Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, the film has attracted extra attention beyond cinema circles.

Why the certification was delayed

The delay reportedly began after a member of the censor board objected to certain scenes, arguing that they could hurt public sentiment. There were also unverified claims that some portions of the film could benefit Vijay’s political campaign, especially with the movie planned close to the election season.

Following the objections, the CBFC recommended that the film be sent to the revising committee. The producers, KVN Productions, then approached the Madras High Court seeking directions to speed up the certification process. The matter led to a legal battle between the makers and the CBFC for nearly a month.

The producers later withdrew their petition and agreed to submit the film to the revising committee. As of now, Jana Nayagan is still waiting for censor clearance, and the exact reason for the continued delay has not been officially revealed.
