Jana Nayagan Worldwide Opening Reflects Vijay Craze
The estimated Rs 30 crore overseas gross played an important role in taking the worldwide opening to Rs 78.27 crore. Vijay’s fan following in international Tamil markets, combined with the emotional importance attached to his farewell release, helped the film post a major global total.
However, the film’s estimated opening remained below the first-day worldwide figures reported for some previous Tamil blockbusters, including Vijay’s The Greatest of All Time and Leo. Its performance during the opening weekend will now determine whether it can maintain momentum after the initial fan-driven rush.
Jana Nayagan Story, Cast and Expectations
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan features Vijay as Vetri Kondan, a fearless former police officer attempting to honour a promise by preparing his adopted daughter Viji, played by Mamitha Baiju, to become a soldier. Her traumatic past creates emotional and practical challenges during the journey.
Bobby Deol appears as antagonist John Himler, whose arrival in India sets up the film’s central conflict. The cast also includes Pooja Hegde, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Gautham Vasudev Menon and Narain. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the film’s music and background score. With a strong opening in Tamil markets and solid overseas support, Jana Nayagan has started its box office run on a positive note. Attention will now turn to its Friday hold and first-weekend growth as the film attempts to convert Vijay’s farewell celebrations into a sustained theatrical run.
