Mirzapur Movie Advance Booking Sparks ₹20 Crore Opening Buzz

Mirzapur Movie Advance Booking Sparks ₹20 Crore Opening Buzz

Mirzapur: The Movie is generating strong advance-booking interest ahead of its September 4 theatrical release.

Mirzapur Movie Advance Booking Exceeds Early Expectations

Mirzapur: The Movie has emerged as a closely watched release after its advance bookings reportedly opened to a stronger-than-expected response. Bookings for the gangster drama began on Monday, August 31, ahead of its theatrical release on Friday, September 4, 2026.

According to early trade reports, the film has sold more than 20,000 tickets across major national multiplex chains. The initial momentum has surprised sections of the trade, especially because the project is a theatrical extension of a streaming series rather than an established cinema franchise.

The early response indicates that the popularity of the Mirzapur series could translate into considerable interest at the box office. However, the final advance-booking total will depend on how sales develop across the remaining days and whether the film records strong spot bookings on its opening day.

Mirzapur Movie Eyes Possible ₹20 Crore Opening Day

Before advance sales began, trade estimates reportedly placed the film’s Hindi opening between ₹10 crore and ₹15 crore. The stronger booking trend has now led to speculation that Mirzapur: The Movie could target a first-day collection of approximately ₹20 crore.

If the film reaches that figure, it would represent a significant result for a movie adapted from an OTT franchise. It could also establish a new commercial pathway for successful Indian streaming properties seeking to expand into theatres.

The ₹20 crore projection is not a confirmed collection and should be treated as an early trade estimate. Ticket sales in non-national chains, single-screen cinemas and smaller centres will play an important role in determining the final opening. Audience reviews, show availability and same-day bookings could also influence the result.

A strong opening would demonstrate the value of the Mirzapur brand beyond streaming. It may also encourage producers and digital platforms to consider theatrical spin-offs or feature-length continuations of other popular web series.

Mirzapur Movie Receives A Certificate and Three-Hour Runtime

Mirzapur: The Movie has reportedly received an A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification. The certification limits theatrical viewing to adult audiences, which could affect the film’s overall reach compared with releases carrying a broader classification.

Reports state that the CBFC directed changes involving intimate scenes, abusive language and certain dialogues. The certified runtime is approximately 197 minutes and 19 seconds, placing the film at more than three hours in length.

A lengthy runtime can reduce the number of daily shows available to exhibitors, while the adult certificate may restrict family attendance. These factors could present challenges after the opening weekend. Nevertheless, the early ticket sales suggest that the franchise’s loyal audience remains interested despite these limitations.

The Mirzapur universe is known for violence, crime, political rivalry and strong language. The A certificate is therefore consistent with the mature tone associated with the original series, although viewers will have to wait for the theatrical release to see how that tone has been adapted for cinema.

Mirzapur Movie Takes Popular OTT Franchise to Cinemas

The film marks the big-screen debut of Amazon Prime Video’s Mirzapur franchise. The original streaming series built a large following through its portrayal of gang warfare, power struggles, revenge and political influence in Uttar Pradesh.

Moving the story from streaming to theatres is a major test of the franchise’s popularity. Existing fans could provide a strong opening base, while the theatrical format may introduce the Mirzapur world to viewers who have not closely followed the series.

The current booking trend has already created valuable pre-release attention. The central question is whether that initial curiosity will continue after the first shows and translate into sustained box office performance.

With a September 4 release, an adult certificate and a runtime exceeding three hours, Mirzapur: The Movie faces both opportunities and challenges. Its opening-day performance will reveal whether a successful Indian OTT franchise can generate comparable excitement on the big screen.
