Sree Vishnu returns to his familiar comedy territory with Comrade Kalyan, an unconventional romantic entertainer built around a wanted Naxalite. The newly released teaser introduces a serious political and law-enforcement backdrop but uses the hero’s romantic ambitions and attempts to escape the police as its primary sources of humour.

Set in 1992, the film follows Thaatikonda Kalyan, a Naxalite who appears to be more interested in pursuing love than participating in a revolution. This contrast gives the teaser its quirky identity and provides Sree Vishnu with considerable space to display his comic timing.

Mahima Nambiar plays the female lead, while Shine Tom Chacko heads the police track. Directed by Janakiram Marella, Comrade Kalyan is scheduled for a theatrical release on Friday, October 9, 2026.

The teaser establishes Kalyan as a wanted man living under the constant threat of arrest. Despite the danger surrounding him, his attention repeatedly shifts towards romance, creating humour from the gap between his serious situation and carefree behaviour.

Presenting a Naxalite protagonist in such a light-hearted manner is an unusual choice for Telugu cinema. Films using this backdrop generally focus on ideology, social conflict, police operations or emotional tragedy. Comrade Kalyan instead appears to combine those elements with romance and situational comedy.

The 1992 setting gives the film a period atmosphere and could play an important role in the narrative. The costumes, locations and absence of modern communication technology may also create additional complications as Kalyan attempts to maintain his relationship while avoiding the authorities.

Sree Vishnu’s expressive performance is among the teaser’s most noticeable elements. His character shifts between confidence, nervousness and romantic enthusiasm, allowing the actor to use the understated humour that has worked effectively in several of his earlier entertainers.
