Toxic OTT Rights Reportedly Fall From ₹150 Crore to ₹30 Crore

Toxic OTT Rights Reportedly Fall From ₹150 Crore to ₹30 Crore

Toxic’s digital rights reportedly remain unsold following its disappointing theatrical run. Offers are said to have fallen from ₹150 crore before release to nearly ₹30 crore, although the producers and Zee5 have not confirmed these figures.

Yash’s ambitious pan-India film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is reportedly facing a major setback in the digital market after failing to meet its theatrical expectations. Industry reports claim that the movie’s post-theatrical streaming rights remain unsold, despite extensive interest surrounding the project before its release.

A leading streaming platform reportedly offered approximately ₹150 crore for the film’s digital rights before its theatrical debut. The producers, however, were said to be seeking more than ₹200 crore, expecting Toxic to become a major box-office success and increase its value among streaming services.

That strategy reportedly failed to deliver the expected result after the film received mixed-to-negative word of mouth and struggled to maintain its initial theatrical momentum. Streaming platforms are now said to be offering substantially lower amounts, with the valuation reportedly falling to nearly ₹30 crore.

Toxic OTT Rights Face Sharp Valuation Drop

According to a Bollywood Hungama report cited by several publications, Toxic had attracted an offer of around ₹150 crore before release. The makers reportedly rejected that proposal because they expected the film’s theatrical performance to push its streaming value beyond ₹200 crore.

Digital platforms are now believed to be taking a more cautious approach. The highest offer received after the theatrical run is reportedly close to ₹30 crore for streaming rights across languages, creating a considerable difference between the makers’ expectations and the current market valuation.

Zee5 is said to have submitted the largest offer so far. However, neither Zee5 nor the film’s producers have officially confirmed that an offer was made, accepted or rejected. The identity of the platform that reportedly proposed the earlier ₹150 crore deal also remains undisclosed.

Earlier reports had claimed Zee5 acquired Toxic’s digital and satellite rights for approximately ₹235 crore. The latest reports directly contradict that information, underlining the need for an official statement before any figure can be treated as final.

Box Office Response Complicates Recovery Plans

Toxic was positioned as one of the year’s biggest pan-India releases, supported by Yash’s popularity following the KGF franchise. The Geetu Mohandas directorial also featured Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth.

Despite a strong opening, the film reportedly experienced a steep decline as audience reactions affected its momentum. Its adult-oriented content could also limit the amount broadcasters are willing to pay for satellite rights because television versions may require extensive edits.

The film’s producers are reportedly considering a separate cut for its streaming release. A revised digital version could include changes intended to improve pacing, accessibility and suitability for home audiences, potentially helping the team negotiate a better offer.

Creating another cut would nevertheless involve additional post-production work without guaranteeing a higher deal. The financial outcome will depend on whether a platform believes the film can generate enough subscriptions and viewing hours to justify the asking price.

Official Toxic Streaming Deal Still Awaited

No OTT platform, streaming date or digital-rights value has been formally announced by the makers. Therefore, the reported ₹150 crore pre-release offer, the ₹200 crore-plus asking price and the latest ₹30 crore valuation should all be treated as unconfirmed industry claims.

Claims concerning the filmmakers’ overall losses also remain speculative because Toxic’s complete production budget, distribution agreements and non-theatrical revenue have not been publicly disclosed.

The strongest confirmed development is that an official streaming announcement is still awaited. Until the producers or an OTT platform disclose the agreement, reports describing Zee5 as the buyer or assigning a final value to the rights remain unverified.
