Shah Rukh Khan’s highly anticipated action film King is preparing to enter one of the busiest theatrical periods of 2026. The Siddharth Anand directorial is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on December 24, placing it in direct competition for holiday audiences during the lucrative Christmas weekend.
Shah Rukh Khan has confirmed that the film remains on track for its planned December 24 release despite earlier speculation about a possible delay. The date gives King a major holiday advantage, but it also places the Bollywood production within a crowded international release corridor.
King enters crowded Christmas box-office race
Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three are both scheduled to open on December 18, just six days before King. The two Hollywood tentpoles are expected to retain a substantial number of screens during the Christmas weekend.
The next Jumanji film, featuring Dwayne Johnson, is also positioned for the Christmas release period, further intensifying competition for screens and premium formats. Reports have additionally linked Nagarjuna Akkineni’s King100 with a December 24 release, although its final theatrical date requires official confirmation.
Rather than a single-day clash with every title, King will face several major films competing within the same holiday window. The crowded schedule could create intense competition across India and overseas markets, particularly for premium screens and evening shows.
SRK reunites with Deepika Padukone
King reunites Shah Rukh Khan with Deepika Padukone, one of Hindi cinema’s most successful on-screen pairings. They previously appeared together in Om Shanti Om, Chennai Express, Happy New Year, Pathaan and Jawan, with several of those films becoming major commercial successes.
Abhishek Bachchan is expected to play the antagonist, setting up a high-profile confrontation with Shah Rukh Khan. Suhana Khan will also appear in a key role, making the film especially significant for the Khan family.
Directed by Siddharth Anand, King is backed by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures. The combination of SRK, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan and Suhana Khan has made it one of the most anticipated Indian releases of 2026.
With multiple large-scale films arriving within days of one another, Christmas 2026 is shaping up to become a major global box-office contest. King’s star power and holiday release date could give it a strong opening, but its long-term performance will depend on audience response and screen availability.
