Pyre Cast Features First-Time Actors
Pyre features 80-year-old Padam Singh Kapri and 70-year-old Heera Devi, both Uttarakhand residents who had never acted in front of a camera before the project. Padam Singh Kapri, a retired Army serviceman, plays a character bearing his own name, while Heera Devi portrays Tulsi. Written and directed by Vinod Kapri, the film has travelled to international festivals and earned 18 awards, including 15 Best Film honours, according to the makers. Its festival recognition also includes honours for direction, music, cinematography and sound. The film is produced by Vinod Kapri, Suresh Joshi and Arindra Rai Chaudhuri under Bhagirathi Films and Mashakbeen Studios.
Pyre Release Brings the Film to Indian Audiences
Pyre is scheduled for a theatrical release on October 30, 2026, in Hindi and Malayalam. Ahead of its nationwide arrival, special screenings are planned in Berinag, Bageshwar and Srinagar Garhwal between October 14 and 17 through Picture Time. The mobile theatre initiative brings screenings to communities with limited access to permanent cinemas.
