Movie Description
Batwara 1947 is a Hindi period action drama set against the painful backdrop of India’s Partition in 1947. The story follows Sikander Mirza, who moves with his Muslim family from Lucknow to Lahore after the division of the country. They are allotted a haveli abandoned by a Hindu family but discover that an elderly woman named Mai still lives there and refuses to leave her ancestral home. Her presence creates tension while also bringing questions of humanity, religion, displacement and communal harmony to the forefront. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film stars Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh. It is inspired by Asghar Wajahat’s acclaimed play Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai.
