Sudheer Babu is known for trying out nee age scripts and he is back at it again with Hunt which is billed to be a new-age action thriller. Here’s what we have to say after watching the film.
Story: Assistant Commissioner of Police, Arjun (Sudheer) meets with a freakish bike accident and he forgets the past. But he now has to solve a high profile murder case without any recollection of the incidents in the past. Will he be able to do so?
How did the actors perform?
The film has a limited star cast. Sudheer Babu does a fine job in the central role. He plays an action-driven role and emotes well as an ACP who has no recollection of his past.
Sudheer is supported by Srikanth and Premisthe fame, Bharath. These two actors get meaty roles and they put up a fine performance.
The rest of the supporting cast deliver whatever is expected of them. There’s not much scope for the support cast though.
What about the technical finesse?
The debut director Mahesh picks a novel script that has a very interesting book point but his narration is patchy. The film has inconsistent flow for most parts. But he excelled in handling the climax portion.
The background score by Ghibran is pretty good as he elevates the intensity and the mood of certain scenes with his high-pitch score.
The visual composition is good. The low-lit visuals and the fast-paced action sequences are presented in a visually stunning manner. The action composition is something very new for the Telugu audience.
The production values are of standard quality. The editing could’ve been better in the middle portion as there’s a bit of lag in the same.
Analysis:
Hunt is essentially a thriller that tracks along the life story of a memory loss ACP who goes to any extent to crack a case. But the catch here is that he has no recollection of incidents in the past after he meets with a freakish bike accident.
The hookpoint is interesting and the tidbits pertaining to the case that are spread across the narrative catch the attention. But the investigation process is not showcased in a compelling manner.
As good as the action composition might be, there are way too many fight sequences in the film that tamper with the flow of the film. These sequences could’ve been avoided.
The investigation process in the film is the insipid part. But the momentum picks up towards the end as a rather shocking twist in the climax portion makes the film a watchable one.
A better paced screenplay could’ve worked wonderfully well for the film as the premise is indeed very interesting, but the overall presentation, not quite.
Verdict: Hunt is a middling thriller with a fair bit of lag in the middle portion owing to an insipid investigation track. The climax bit is a shocking one and it ends the film on a right note. Those who love thrillers and don’t mind the slow narrative speed might give it a try.
