Madhyamgram, West Bengal — A close aide of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari was shot dead in Madhyamgram near Kolkata on Wednesday May 6, 2026, police said.
The victim, identified as Chandranath Dutta, was attacked at close range in North 24 Parganas district. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Police said unidentified assailants opened fire and fled the scene. No arrests have been made so far, and the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
Residents reported hearing multiple gunshots, causing panic in the area. Law enforcement teams secured the site and collected forensic evidence, including ballistic material.
