Cyclone Arnab caused widespread damage across coastal Andhra Pradesh, particularly in Kakinada and surrounding districts, on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. Powerful winds and heavy rainfall uprooted trees, damaged electric poles, disrupted power supplies and affected roads and agricultural areas.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Arnab crossed the Andhra Pradesh–Yanam coast between 2:00 AM and 8:00 AM IST, with sustained winds of 125–135 kmph and gusts reaching 150 kmph.
The cyclone's unusual movement near the coastline sparked speculation about a U-turn. However, the IMD described a single, prolonged landfall rather than two separate landfalls.
Following landfall, the cyclone weakened into a severe cyclonic storm. Authorities continued monitoring affected areas as restoration and relief operations progressed.
Residents in coastal districts are advised to follow official weather updates and local safety instructions.
