Chiranjeevi Wants Ram Charan, Janhvi in JVAS Sequel with Nag Ashwin
As Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari (JVAS), one of Telugu cinema’s most iconic socio-fantasy dramas, gears up for its grand 35th anniversary re-release on May 9, talks of a sequel have resurfaced with none other than Megastar Chiranjeevi himself fueling the buzz. Long back, producer Ashwini Dutt had expressed his interest in creating a sequel to the 1990 cult classic, envisioning Ram Charan in the lead role. Though the idea didn’t materialize at the time, Chiranjeevi’s recent remarks have reignited hopes, adding fresh faces and names to the potential project.

Chiranjeevi’s Dream Team for JVAS 2
In a recent statement, Chiranjeevi shared that his ideal casting for the sequel would feature:
  • Ram Charan as the male lead
  • Janhvi Kapoor, daughter of late legendary actress Sridevi, as the female lead
  • Nag Ashwin as the director
  • K. Raghavendra Rao, the director of the original, as the direction supervisor
  • Production by Swapna Dutt and Priyanka Dutt, daughters of Ashwini Dutt, under the Vyjayanthi Movies banner
This dream team would bring together legacy, fresh talent, and modern cinematic vision offering the perfect blend of nostalgia and new-age storytelling. “The Story Should Surpass the Original”. While Chiranjeevi is enthusiastic about a sequel, he acknowledged the mammoth challenge it presents. “We have all the technical finesse today to outdo the original, but the story and screenplay must be stronger than JVAS to justify a sequel,” he said.

His comments highlight the respect the team has for the original’s legacy. Directed by K. Raghavendra Rao and starring Chiranjeevi and Sridevi, the 1990 film is remembered for its unique fantasy elements, path-breaking visuals, and emotional depth. It remains one of the biggest hits in Telugu cinema history. The sequel would need to walk a fine line between preserving the essence of the original while updating the narrative for a contemporary audience.

With director Nag Ashwin riding high on acclaim for Mahanati and prepping for the much-anticipated sci-fi film Kalki 2898 AD, he is no stranger to high-concept cinema. His involvement could lend the sequel both vision and scale. Given the legacy of JVAS and the expectation tied to any sequel, the project would undoubtedly become one of the most-awaited ventures in Telugu cinema if greenlit. For now, Swapna Dutt and Priyanka Dutt have not made an official announcement, but Chiranjeevi’s endorsement may be the push needed to turn this long-cherished sequel into reality.
