Mani Ratnam Denies Rumors of Film with Naveen Polishetty

Veteran filmmaker Mani Ratnam has officially denied widespread rumors that he is collaborating with young Telugu actor Naveen Polishetty for an upcoming project. The buzz, which gained traction across social media, speculated that Ratnam's next film post-Thug Life would star Naveen alongside Rukmini Vasanth. However, the director has firmly dismissed these claims. In a recent media interaction, when asked about the rumored project, Ratnam responded with a crisp “Not at all.” He added with a touch of humor, “This is news to me as well.”

Addressing the online chatter, Mani Ratnam clarified, “I have no clue what they are talking about. I’m currently working on a couple of scripts, but nothing has been finalized yet.” Known for his collaborations with seasoned actors, Mani Ratnam rarely ventures into projects with young, rising stars. His last notable film with a younger lead was ‘Ok Kanmani’ (2015) featuring Dulquer Salmaan. That’s why the speculation involving Naveen Polishetty, known for his comic timing and youth-centric appeal, created such buzz among fans and industry insiders alike.

While the filmmaker remains tight-lipped about his future projects, his immediate focus is on ‘Thug Life’, a star-studded action drama featuring Kamal Haasan, Trisha, Abirami, and Simbhu. The much-anticipated film is scheduled to release on June 5, 2025. Ratnam’s ability to quickly move from one ambitious project to another was evident when he transitioned from the epic Ponniyin Selvan franchise to Thug Life. Whether his next film will follow a similar rapid development path remains to be seen. For now, fans of both Mani Ratnam and Naveen Polishetty will have to wait a little longer to see if a collaboration between the acclaimed filmmaker and the Telugu comedy star ever materializes but as of now, it’s purely fiction.
