Saif Ali Khan Shares His Views On Faith And Family
Actor Saif Ali Khan has opened up about the conversations he has with his sons, Taimur and Jehangir, on religion, faith and values. The actor said he teaches them a simple belief: there is one god, and he has many names. His comments have drawn attention because they reflect his own interfaith family background and the way he wants his children to understand different traditions.
Speaking at a recent public event, Saif said he enjoys discussing religion with his children even though he does not consider himself a deeply religious person. He said his mother, veteran actor Sharmila Tagore, taught him to look at faith with openness, and he has passed the same idea to his sons. According to him, different people may worship in different places and follow different customs, but love and forgiveness remain the core values of any religion.
Saif was born to former Indian cricket captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and Sharmila Tagore, whose marriage itself was interfaith. The actor later had two interfaith marriages, first with Amrita Singh and later with Kareena Kapoor Khan. His personal life has often been discussed in public, especially around religion, identity and family choices.
Saif Reflects On Interfaith Upbringing
Saif also recalled growing up around Christian institutions and spending time in schools where the day began with chapel. He said his childhood included exposure to different prayers and festivals, with Christmas being celebrated as warmly as Diwali. For him, this mix of traditions felt natural and not forced.
The actor shared a recent conversation with his elder son Taimur, where he asked him about the difference between religion and methodology. Taimur replied that in religion people pray, while in methodology they do not. Saif called it a good answer and said such conversations happen often at home.
He also credited both his mother and his wife Kareena Kapoor Khan for having an open and spiritual approach towards religion. Saif’s comments come at a time when celebrity interfaith marriages continue to attract public debate and online scrutiny. His sister Soha Ali Khan had earlier spoken about criticism faced by interfaith couples, including remarks linked to religion and identity.
Kareena Kapoor Khan has also previously said that too much attention is often given to religion and age differences in her marriage with Saif. She said the most important part of their relationship is that they like each other and enjoy each other’s company. Saif was recently seen in Kartavya. He will next be seen in Priyadarshan’s Haiwaan alongside Akshay Kumar. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on September 11.
