Kareena, Saif Support Karisma After Ex-Husband Sunjay Kapur Dies
Industrialist Sunjay Kapur, ex-husband of actor Karisma Kapoor, passed away at the age of 53 after suffering a sudden heart attack while playing polo in England. The tragic news shocked both the business and film fraternities, prompting an outpouring of condolences.
In the immediate aftermath of the news, Karisma’s sister Kareena Kapoor Khan and brother-in-law Saif Ali Khan rushed to her home in Mumbai late Thursday night to be with her during this emotional time. Kareena, visibly emotional, avoided paparazzi cameras while Saif remained by her side, offering quiet support.
The Kapoor family wasn’t alone in their grief. Malaika Arora, her sister Amrita Arora, and Amrita's husband Shakeel Ladak were also seen visiting Karisma to offer their condolences. Many in Bollywood and close to the family have shared messages of support since the news broke.
Actor and author Suhel Seth confirmed Sunjay Kapur’s passing via a post on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Deeply saddened at the passing of @sunjaykapur: he passed away earlier today in England: a terrible loss and deepest condolences to his family and to his colleagues @sonacomstar.... Om Shanti.”
Just hours before his sudden death, Sunjay had expressed grief over the Ahmedabad plane crash in a post on X, writing: “Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour. #planecrash.”
Sunjay Kapur and Karisma Kapoor married in 2003 and share two children, Samaira and Kiaan. The couple separated in 2014 and finalized their divorce in 2016. In 2017, Sunjay remarried model Priya Sachdev, and they share a son, Azarias. While the family has not released an official statement yet, close friends and well-wishers continue to visit Karisma Kapoor, offering their prayers and support as she navigates this difficult time.
