Anupama Parameswaran Opens Up on Trolls, Comeback with JSK
Popular South Indian actress Anupama Parameswaran has finally broken her silence on the reason behind her long absence from Malayalam films. During the audio launch of her upcoming film Janaki vs State of Kerala (JSK), held in Kochi on June 16, the actress candidly shared her thoughts on facing social media trolling and how it impacted her career choices. She also expressed gratitude to director Pravin Narayanan for believing in her talent at a time when many doubted her acting capabilities.
Anupama revealed that she received harsh criticism online, with many questioning her acting skills. However, instead of letting the negativity define her, she used it as motivation to focus on more meaningful and impactful cinema. The actress emphasized that JSK is a film she chose deliberately because it excited her creatively and aligned with her new approach to selecting roles. She plays the lead character, Janaki, in the courtroom drama, which revolves around a strong female protagonist fighting for justice.
At the event, she said, “A lot of people trolled me saying I can’t act. But despite all that, Pravin sir cast me as Janaki, the heart of the film. I’m grateful for that trust.” Anupama also reflected on how the COVID-19 lockdown served as a turning point in her career and personal growth. She credited that phase for helping her reassess her goals and make thoughtful decisions about the projects she chooses.
Directed by Pravin Narayanan, Janaki vs State of Kerala is set to hit theatres on June 27, 2025. The film features a strong ensemble cast including Suresh Gopi, Shruthi Ramachandran, Divya Pillai, Askar Ali, Baiju Santhosh, Shobi Thilakan, and Jayan Cherthala. The movie is co-produced by J Phanindra Kumar and Sethuraman Nair Kankol. Anupama’s performance as Janaki is expected to be a key highlight, marking her return to Malayalam cinema with a role that showcases emotional depth and resilience.
Prior to this, Anupama appeared in Telugu and Tamil films, including the 2024 hit Tillu Square and the 2025 release Dragon. With her return to Malayalam films through JSK, Anupama Parameswaran aims to silence the critics and reclaim her space in the industry with confidence and maturity.
