Kuberaa: Rich vs Poor Drama with Dhanush, Nagarjuna
Director Sekhar Kammula’s upcoming film Kuberaa is gearing up for a theatrical release on June 20, bringing together a powerful cast led by Dhanush and Nagarjuna. The film also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Jim Sarbh in key roles. Produced by Suniel Narang and Puskur Rammohan Rao, Kuberaa is positioned as a poignant social drama centered on economic disparity.
The producers revealed that the film took shape shortly after the success of Love Story. “Sekhar Kammula shared this concept with us, and he was convinced Dhanush would be the perfect fit. Within just 20 minutes of narration, Dhanush gave his nod. That’s how the project took off,” said the producers in a recent media interaction.
Kuberaa is being released as a bilingual in Telugu and Tamil, with dubbed versions also lined up for Hindi audiences. The producers confirmed that the first copy of the film is complete and that the output has exceeded expectations.
At the heart of Kuberaa lies a compelling conflict: the stark contrast between the world’s richest man and the poorest individual on the streets. “That’s the core of the story,” the producers explained, “and it’s what drives the film’s emotional and dramatic weight.”
They also expressed excitement about finally collaborating with veteran actor Nagarjuna. “We had long wanted to work with him. When he heard the story, he immediately came on board. His performance is exceptional nobody else could’ve done justice to that role.”
Shooting Kuberaa came with its own set of challenges, particularly the decision to film in real environments. “We shot in live locations slums, garbage yards, even actual streets in Mumbai. It was logistically difficult but added a layer of realism we’re proud of,” the team shared.
In addition, the producers hinted at another film with Sekhar Kammula in the pipeline, although the lead actor for that project is yet to be finalized. As anticipation builds, Kuberaa is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about social dramas of the year, promising both intense performances and a hard-hitting message.
