Suriya 45: Karuppu Title Honors Folk Legend

Superstar Suriya’s much-awaited 45th film, directed by RJ Balaji, now has a title that evokes power, culture, and deep-rooted faith. The film has officially been named Karuppu, after the revered South Indian folk deity Karuppusamy, often worshipped as a guardian spirit known for protecting rural communities.

Unveiled on the occasion of RJ Balaji’s birthday, the title poster sets a commanding tone for what promises to be an intense and concept-driven action adventure. The poster shows Suriya holding a sword, his back turned to the camera, as the deity’s image looms behind him suggesting a narrative steeped in faith, folklore, and possibly justice.

Trisha Krishnan stars opposite Suriya in this film, marking their reunion after two decades since their 2005 action film Aaru. Their on-screen chemistry and experience are expected to bring depth to this intriguing project. The film is produced by SR Prabhu and SR Prakash Babu under Dream Warrior Pictures, the same banner that backed NGK. With the shoot nearly complete and post-production underway, the film is slated for an August 2025 release.

Karuppu is billed as a unique action-adventure infused with RJ Balaji’s signature style of humour. Cinematographer GK Vishnu, known for his striking visuals, handles the camera, while young talent Sai Abhyankar composes the music. With a mix of mythology, modern storytelling, and high-octane action, Karuppu is shaping up to be one of the most exciting Tamil releases of the year.
