Nayanthara Hit by Legal Controversy Over Chandramukhi Footage

Nayanthara is embroiled in yet another legal controversy. The popular actress and her husband, Vignesh Shivan, are facing legal action after producers of the 2005 film Chandramukhi accused them of using unauthorized footage in Nayanthara’s documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale, which is available on Netflix. The producers, who hold the rights to Chandramukhi, have claimed that the footage was taken from YouTube and included in the documentary without prior permission.

This issue has led to legal proceedings, with the Madras High Court issuing a notice to Netflix and the production company behind the documentary. The petition, filed by AP International, which holds the film's copyright, has led to a cease notice being sent to the producers, demanding Rs. 5 crore in damages. Despite the cease notice, the producers reportedly approached AP International for rights only after the notice had been issued, prompting further legal action.

The lawsuit now seeks a permanent injunction against the use of Chandramukhi footage in the documentary, with the producers demanding the immediate removal of all such clips. This legal conflict is just the latest controversy surrounding Nayanthara, who was previously criticized for supporting choreographer Jani, arrested in connection with a POCSO case.

The situation has drawn attention not only for the legal aspects but also for the impact it could have on the film industry’s relationship with copyright regulations. This lawsuit is the second legal battle for Nayanthara in recent months. Earlier, actor Dhanush filed a lawsuit against Nayanthara for allegedly using a clip from his 2015 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan without permission. These ongoing disputes are bringing increased scrutiny to Nayanthara’s professional choices, raising questions about the delicate balance between creative work and legal rights in the entertainment industry.

The outcome of this case could potentially set a precedent for how similar issues are handled in the future, especially in terms of the use of footage in documentaries and the respect for intellectual property rights. For now, Nayanthara and her team will be closely watching the developments in the legal battle, which is expected to continue in the coming weeks. The controversy surrounding Beyond The Fairy Tale is a reminder of the complexities of intellectual property in modern filmmaking and the potential for such issues to escalate into larger legal challenges.
