Vishal Calls for Ban on Public Review Filming in Theatres

At a recent event, actor Vishal, also the General Secretary of the Nadigar Sangam, appealed to media outlets and theatre operators to temporarily halt the filming of public reviews in theatres during the first three days of a film’s release. Vishal’s request aims to protect the integrity of films, giving them time to establish their performance without external pressures. His call for a ban specifically targets the first 12 shows of a film’s release, which he believes should be free from public review recordings.

Speaking during the trailer launch of the Tamil film Red Flower, Vishal stressed that content creators should view the film first in theatres before gathering public opinions. He suggested that this approach would ensure a fair and unbiased platform for both filmmakers and audiences. Vishal, supported by Mr. Kathiresan, Vice President of the Tamil Film Producers Council, further proposed that YouTubers and other content creators could ask for reviews from audiences outside the theatres instead of recording them inside, ensuring that the integrity of the initial release remains intact.

Vishal highlighted the importance of film reviews but emphasized the need for a "breathing space" during the initial screenings to allow the film to settle before being judged by public opinion. This proposal comes amid ongoing debates about the impact of instant online reviews, which some argue can affect a film's box office performance.

The Madras High Court had recently dismissed a petition by the Tamil Film Active Producers Association to ban online movie reviews during the first three days of a film’s release, citing freedom of speech. Vishal’s call for a temporary ban on filming in theatres is another facet of the ongoing discussions in the film industry about how public opinion and early reviews can influence the success of a movie.
