The story behind the Meghalaya murder case revolves around Sonam and Raja, a couple who were married in May 2025. After their honeymoon in Sohra, 65 kilometers from Shillong, Raja went missing, and his decomposed body was discovered in a 200-foot-deep gorge near Weisawdong Falls in Cherrapunji on June 2. The police later revealed that Raja had been brutally hacked to death and dumped in the gorge. A week later, Sonam was arrested in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, where she allegedly confessed to her husband's murder and named several accomplices, including Kushwaha, Vishal Chauhan, Anand Kurmi, and Akash Rajput. The police arrested all four individuals involved in the crime.
