Mahesh Babu’s Bollywood Can’t Afford Me Statement Trends Again After War 2’s Box Office Flop

Over the past decade, Telugu cinema has garnered widespread acclaim across India, with films like Baahubali paving the way for Telugu directors and actors to lead the pan-Indian market. As Bollywood looks to capitalize on this success, there have been multiple attempts to collaborate with Telugu stars to expand their reach, though with varying results.

Recently, War 2, part of the YRF Spy Universe, was released, but it met a lukewarm reception at the box office. Telugu audiences, in particular, were disappointed with Jr. NTR’s debut in Hindi cinema, echoing sentiments from previous films like Ram Charan’s Zanjeer and Prabhas’ Adipurush, which also failed to live up to expectations despite the stars’ immense popularity in the Telugu film industry.

Mahesh Babu’s Bold Take on Bollywood

Amid these developments, a statement by Mahesh Babu from 2022 has resurfaced and gone viral on social media. At the trailer release of Adivi Sesh’s Major, Mahesh revealed that he had been offered several Bollywood films but had never felt the urge to cross over. He boldly stated, “I sound arrogant; I did receive a lot of offers in Hindi. But I feel they can’t afford me. I don’t want to waste my time.”

During the same event, Mahesh emphasized the growing influence of Telugu cinema on a national scale. He made it clear that his focus has always been on ensuring Telugu films reach all corners of India, rather than positioning himself as just a pan-India actor. “Today, the emotion is so intense, films have grown so large that the lines have vanished, and it has become Indian cinema,” he added.

The resurgence of Mahesh Babu’s comments has sparked fresh debates on social media, especially following the disappointing performance of War 2 and Adipurush. Many Telugu fans strongly agree with Mahesh's observation, pointing to the failures of recent Hindi films that couldn't meet the high expectations of regional audiences. For them, Mahesh’s statement reinforces the belief that some stars, especially those from Telugu cinema, are best appreciated within their own industry.
