Lokah Turns From No Buyers To All-Time Hit As Dulquer Salmaan’s Film Nears 270 Crore
Dulquer Salmaan has proven himself not only as a star actor but also as a sharp producer with the phenomenal success of his latest film, Lokah. What started as a project with no buyers and fears of financial loss has now transformed into a blockbuster on the verge of rewriting industry records.
In a recent interview, Dulquer admitted that he had mentally prepared himself for a loss on the first installment of the Lokah franchise. He explained that while the film had quality, its high budget and lack of buyer confidence initially worried him. However, the response shocked both him and the trade circles. He shared that in his journey of producing seven films, he had never experienced such a dramatic turnaround, calling the success of Lokah “unprecedented.”
The actor-producer revealed that the film’s blend of pop culture references, stunning VFX, and gripping storytelling played a huge role in connecting with audiences. Initially, the team believed profits would only come with future installments if the franchise established itself. Instead, Lokah surged ahead, proving to be a massive money-spinner right from the start.
On the box office front, Lokah has already crossed the 250 crore mark by September 15 and is now eyeing the all-time industry hit benchmark of 270 crore, currently held by Empuraan. With its strong momentum, trade analysts expect the film to surpass this milestone by the coming weekend, cementing its place as one of Malayalam cinema’s biggest-ever successes.
Directed by Dominic Arun, the first installment of Lokah was headlined by Kalyani Priyadarshan. With sequels already in the pipeline, fans can look forward to an even grander lineup featuring Dulquer Salmaan, Tovino Thomas, and Mammootty. The unprecedented success of Lokah not only strengthens Dulquer’s position as a bankable producer but also opens the door for a long-lasting franchise that could dominate Indian cinema for years to come.
