Sai Pallavi in talks to play MS Subbulakshmi in big biopic by Geetha Arts

Sai Pallavi is reportedly being considered for one of the most challenging and prestigious roles of her career, as discussions are underway for her to portray legendary Carnatic vocalist M.S. Subbulakshmi in an upcoming biopic. M.S. Subbulakshmi, widely regarded as one of the greatest musicians India has ever produced, enjoyed a remarkable career spanning more than seven decades and became the first musician to be honoured with the Bharat Ratna. A biographical film based on her life is seen as a significant cinematic responsibility due to her immense cultural and historical importance.

According to industry sources, the biopic is expected to be produced by Allu Aravind under the banner of Geetha Arts and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Goutham Tinnanuri, best known for emotionally driven films such as Jersey and Malli Raava. The association of a respected production house and a director known for strong storytelling has already created considerable buzz around the project. Sai Pallavi is said to be in talks for the lead role, and discussions are reportedly progressing, though no official announcement has been made yet.

Sai Pallavi is currently at a crucial stage in her career, carefully selecting roles that carry emotional depth and social relevance. She is already set to play Sita in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious Ramayana project, which is being made in two parts and scheduled for release during Diwali 2026 and Diwali 2027. Taking on the role of M.S. Subbulakshmi would mark another milestone, as the character demands not only strong acting skills but also a deep understanding of music, discipline, and cultural legacy.

Fondly known as M.S. Amma, M.S. Subbulakshmi played a pivotal role in introducing Carnatic music to international audiences. She made history as the first Indian musician to perform at the United Nations General Assembly in 1966 and also performed at globally renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Royal Albert Hall. Apart from her classical concerts, her devotional compositions reached millions and continue to resonate across generations. She also appeared in films, most notably Meera, where her portrayal of the saint-poet remains iconic. More than a musical legend, M.S. Subbulakshmi was a symbol of humility, devotion, and cultural pride, making her life story a powerful subject for cinema.
