Vijay’s Jana Nayagan Misses Republic Day Release, Makers Eye February Launch

Thalapathy Vijay's much-awaited film, Jana Nayagan, was initially scheduled for a January 9 release, but it has now missed the Republic Day week due to a legal dispute with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The ongoing legal battle, which saw the Madras High Court reserving its judgment on January 20, has pushed the film’s release plans into uncertainty. The court did not provide a date for the verdict, leaving both the producers and fans hoping for a favorable outcome soon.

The makers had hoped for an early ruling in time for the Republic Day release, a prime window for a big film launch. However, with the case still pending and the next hearing scheduled for January 27, Jana Nayagan has missed this crucial opportunity. The delay has left KVN Productions facing significant financial risk, with an investment of Rs 500 crore at stake. Additionally, Amazon Prime Video had reportedly threatened legal action due to the uncertainty surrounding the film’s release.

Now that a Republic Day launch is off the table, the film's team, along with theatre owners and exhibitors, is looking at alternative dates in February. With no major releases expected in the month, Jana Nayagan could secure a strong presence in both the domestic and international markets. The upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections, however, pose another challenge. If the Election Commission announces the schedule in the third week of February, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) could complicate the film’s release, especially as Vijay is set to contest in the elections. Therefore, a February release, ideally before the elections, has become crucial to avoid further delays. Directed by H Vinoth, the film stars Vijay, Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Priyamani, and Prakash Raj in pivotal roles.
