Border 2 box office day 6: sunny deol war drama slows down after strong opening
After a commanding opening weekend, Border 2 has begun to show signs of slowing down at the Indian box office on its sixth day of release. The Sunny Deol-led war drama, which benefited from the Republic Day holiday surge, witnessed a noticeable dip in collections on its first Wednesday. While the film continues to perform steadily, the sharp momentum seen during the initial days has started to cool as weekday trends take effect.
According to industry tracking platform Sacnilk, Border 2 earned approximately Rs 13 crore nett across all languages in India on day 6, Wednesday, January 28. The film recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 16.78 percent nationwide. Morning shows saw limited footfall at 7.52 percent, while occupancy gradually improved through the day with afternoon shows registering 17.27 percent, evening shows at 19.82 percent, and night shows peaking at 22.50 percent. Despite the drop, the night shows indicate continued interest among audiences, particularly in urban centres.
The decline comes after an impressive extended opening run. Border 2 opened to strong numbers, collecting Rs 32.10 crore on Friday, followed by Rs 40.59 crore on Saturday. The film saw a significant jump on Sunday with Rs 57.20 crore and continued its upward trend on Monday by earning Rs 63.59 crore. However, collections began to taper off on Tuesday and Wednesday, reflecting a typical post-holiday slowdown after the Republic Day weekend.
Directed by Anurag Singh and produced jointly by T-Series and J.P. Films, Border 2 features a large ensemble cast including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty, Sonam Bajwa, Medha Rana, and Mona Singh. The film serves as a spiritual successor to the 1997 classic Border and draws inspiration from the 1971 India-Pakistan war, tapping into patriotic sentiment that traditionally performs well during national holidays.
When compared to other recent Republic Day releases, Border 2 has emerged as a clear frontrunner. The film has outperformed contemporaries like Fighter and Sky Force, which collected significantly lower figures during the same holiday period. This strong comparative performance highlights the enduring appeal of the Border franchise and Sunny Deol’s pull in war-themed films.
Industry analysts are now closely watching the film’s second-week performance to see if it can sustain steady collections and potentially challenge recent blockbusters like Gadar 2. Adding to the buzz, producer Bhushan Kumar has hinted at the possibility of Border 3, confirming that discussions are underway to expand the franchise further. As Border 2 moves deeper into its theatrical run, its box office journey remains under close observation.
